Fly. Flyga. Illa fäkta.

8 Mar 2021

One of the projects that are more or less on hold at the moment is “Fly.Flyga. Illa
fäkta”.
This is the working title for a chorographical research project that looks at
domestic violence’s increase during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together with the two co-founders and artistic directors of Mimbre; Silvia
Fratelli and Lina Johansson I will research acrobatical movements that can be
used to portrait the feeling of being stuck in something you can’t get out of.
Isolation. Powerlessness. To feel strong or weak. Fight or flight?

It’s not the violence I’m interested in illustrating, it’s the victims physical and
emotional strength in relation to their isolation during the Covid pandemic.

Hopefully, we will soon be able to travel to research together. If not I will focus
on another part of the project; developing a solo choreography based on
movements from partner acrobatics.

Funded by Arts council Norway (forprosjekt).

When the world is no longer your stage... 30 acrobats physicalise the shared exhaustion, frustration and complications of living within drastically limited space, creating absurdity and beauty while stuck on their sofas. A short film that gives a snapshot of the extraordinary spring of 2020 and how differently we all dealt with it, finishing with an invite to the viewers to share their own experiences from the comfort of their sofas...

About Filmed in Lockdown: Filmed in Lockdown is a series of new works of literary, musical, visual, and performance arts, commissioned for Culture in Quarantine by Arts Council England and BBC Arts. The Sofa Dance was made with support from The Space Arts and Sadler's Wells.

Det får bära eller brista

3 Sep 2019

In a very few days the creation of "Det får bära eller brista" is about to start at Dynamo - workspace for circus and performing arts in Odense, Denmark.

Preparations are being done parallelly in many places and I'm sitting here as a spider in the net, observing and working and feeling thankful that everything is getting into place. The process can start!

First production meeting

18 Jun 2019

Last weekend the moment had finally come to host the first production meeting with the artists of ”Det får bära eller brista”.

”Det får bära eller brista” is the name of a show that will be created during autumn 2019 and winter 2020 and could be translated as: ”It will hold or break”.

Its creation will take place in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland during 2019 and 2020 and includes six female partner acrobats and two female folk musicians.

The show’s original inspiration came following interviews with my grandmother about her grandmother, her mother and herself. The show aims to tell the story of women’s physical labour during the twentieth century. Contrary to the popular belief that men did all the hard physical work, women were also involved in significant physical tasks, particularly carrying various goods on their backs.

How did they live? What were their physical duties? Did it look alike in all the Nordic countries?

The theme follows women’s’ physical tasks in the last century: clean the pieces of sugar beets, wash by hand, scrub the floor on the knees, be pregnant and draw water from the well in the bucket, and so on.

The project teases out questions about what lies behind the roles of the modern woman, what it means to be a mother, and what we pass on to our children.

I'm extremely excited to start this creation in September!

BUMP- a short film by Arthur le FOL and Mimbre

8 Jun 2019

Mimbre and Arthur Le FOL makes Films are very proud to release their new short film BUMP.

BUMP challenges and deconstructs social expectations around people’s bodies during pregnancy.

I project I joined last year doing partner acrobatics with Silvia Fratelli. Less than seven weeks later Milian popped out. ;)

What an interesting experience to take part of the all-female circus company Mimbre performing at Dior’s haute couture fashion show in Paris.

Here's an interview with Mimbre's co-artistic director Lina Johansson:

Pregnancy filming with Mimbre.

27 Apr 2018

A couple of weeks ago I was in London filming short clips with the amazing acrobatic company Mimbre and film maker Arthur Le Fol. A try to portray the independence of women through their pregnancy...

Here comes a couple of photos from the studio.

2018

14 Mar 2018

After a very calm autumn the new year started intensively and brings a lot of exiting projects.

I started the year diving into a brand new creation; "Att rymma med en cirkus" (To run away with the circus) which is a children's show expected to premiere in November 2018.

It's a quiet clown show with one sculptor, two acrobats and a whole universe of ceramic abstract sculptures. "Att rymma med en cirkus" is about the border between sculpture and body, between creating and practicing. To see your own work through someone else's internship. About longing.

How do you treat sculptures, can you move, pull, climb on them? How do they reach the liberation they long for?

We're exploring the sculptures physical limits, while challenging the prohibition of touching art.

On stage with me: Acrobat Signe Veinholt & sculptor Matilda Haritz Svenson.

I also organised a creative convention for female acrobats that took place during a weekend in the end of January in the south of Sweden. It turned out to be a great event and it was amazing to meet all these lovely, strong and inspiring women!

The meeting was all about partner acrobatics, physical and mental strength and being a woman + motherhood. It was an exchange that reunited and inspired us.

On the schedule we had partner acrobatics, discussions; more or less formal, yoga, good food and wine. ;)

After spending a great deal of last year writing applications for the creation of a full-length adult show "Det får bära eller brista". It is now time to start some of the preparation work.

Its creation will take place in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland during 2019 and will include six female partner acrobats and two folk musicians.

We got funding from Nordisk Kulturfond and are awaiting several other answers in the near future. Anyhow, excitement is here with me and it's going to be an incredible journey to create this show, both on a personal and professional level. I'm looking forward telling you more about this project as it evolves during this year.

Tour with Clowns without borders Sweden in Stockholm.

1 Jun 2017

I couple of weeks ago we finished the punk-clown tour in Stockholm. Performers were Rebeca FL, Antoine Dutrieu and myself. I also had the honor to be tour leader, the link between the clowns withot borders, the venues and the artists, and it was as always both challenging and exiting.

Our audience was unaccompanied minors at different asylum accomodations around the city of Stockholm.

I'm happy having gotten the opportunity to meet all these lovely youth coming from various places in the world and trying to get the hold of their new home country.

Wherever we went we were greeted politely and with big interest. The show was well received and I can still hear their laughter ringing in my ears.

After the show we had discussions and the audience tried acrobatics with the artists. At one venue we got challenges to dance; -can the clowns dance to Afghan music or to Kazakh music? It was a moment to remember!

I big thank you to the Clowns without borders Sweden that made this tour possible together with the City of Stockholm. Also thank you to the motivated teachers and carers that we met during the tour and of course our amazing audience.

Thank you to Björn & Marie that opened up their home so warmly during this week & to Alex, Maé and Aélia that took care of each other and us in the best of ways.

An extra warm thank you to my clown colleges that made every show new and special and could improvise and adapt to a new setting every day!
