The day after in Guadeloupe.

12 Nov 2013

It was a slow day yesterday… Sunday night I moved up to Jessy, my partner acrobatics partner in the Hip Cirq show. She lives at the road that reaches up to the volcano, la Soufrière, and up here it’s windy and a little bit cooler than down in Basse Terre. Yesterday we woke up late after a long last night with the group, we drove directly down to the city to say goodbye to them when they left for the airport and then started our day of rest.

We washed our clothes, drank passion fruit juice, talked. We hung the laundry at her terrace and ate bread and cheese and drank tea. It came some heavy tropical rain that I still find very fascinating. When the night came we watched the news about the Philippines, got some perspective on our reality while Jessy cooked seafood stew with potatoes and I switched the televisions’ sounds to all the tropical sounds outside the windows.

All our shows went really well and we got standing ovations the last night. It feels as if our show has taken a big step forward this last residency and I’m more and more proud to participate in this wonderful project. I don’t look forward to the emptiness that I expect to feel when it ends in the beginning of January. But now I shouldn’t think about that but enjoy the days of holiday that lies ahead of me at this beautiful island.

The month in NY

8 Nov 2013

Life is passing by too fast. I cannot believe that my beautiful month in New York is over and that I'm now sitting in the tropical heat of Guadeloupe with a lot of thoughts on my mind…

To be in New York really helped me realise which projects I want to put the focus on the following year. I had time to think and to write and to finish all those things I label; “tomorrow I’ll do that”. Then it became possible to get inspiration for the next steps.

At the moment I’m very excited about the future, many things are happening simultaneously that brings me in different directions and it’s messy of course, and it’s uncertain. But I love it.

This morning I’m looking out over the sea from the terrace, listening to Fatoumata Diawara and resting before a very important day. Today we play at the national scene of Guadeloupe, L’artchipel, it’s a great theatre with a beautiful stage and we all feel the pressure to do a good work. We’re playing two times, at 2 PM and at 8 PM. A tough day.

Watch out the teaser of the film that is made about the Hip Cirq Europ’:

My little sister & the three P's.

27 Oct 2013

My little sister is one of the persons I admire the most. She's young, she's strong, she knows what she wants and where she's going, but she's also very sensitive and humble. I think that those qualities are perfect to be a good actor, a good artist.

Yesterday when she graduated from the "New York Film Academy" I was very moved, she stood there on stage with tears in her eyes and I felt, this is it, this is when she really understands what this life is about. To be an artist is to be a human being but at 200 %, you have to know yourself so well, turn yourself inside out, you have to understand other people and you have to be brave enough to put your feelings out there.

On the graduation ceremony yesterday one of my sister's teachers David Vando held an amazing speech, he was talking about life and death but he also talked about the three P's; Passion, Preparation and Persistence. The three significant words of an artist's success.

I got so proud of being an artist when he was talking, it felt like such an honourable and impressive way of living your life, and I must say that it's far from always that I feel that way.

Thank you Amanda for bringing me to New York and to make me spend time with you, to let me enjoy your uncompromising but yet so generous nature. And you've got it all, never forget that, the passion, the preparation and the persistence!

Acro Yoga

26 Oct 2013

Rebecka in Brooklyn. It has been a beautiful week. Monday I bought a week of training at The OM Factory, that I've heard is the place to do AcroYoga in New York. I took eight classes in five days and it has been amazing, not only the training but the teachers, the students, the friendly feeling in the groups, the sharing and the love!

I'm very happy so thank you all!!!

Tonight my sister is graduating from her school "The New York Film Academy" after a eight month acting course, and we will do our best to celebrate. And if I know me and my sister well it'll be another wonderful day in NY.

Sunset in Brooklyn Bridge Park

22 Oct 2013

In my beautiful job I meet the most inspiring persons. This strong base I met in Holland in May and yesterday we got together in the park to play around, the way we do it. His talented girlfriend and acrobat was also there and we had a great time. But the sun went down too quickly and oh it was getting cold.

I've fallen in love with this city, everything feels so possible! But sometimes too much and I'm lucky to have my little sister and her calm room where we can just talk, watch a movie and eat a chocolate when the city overwhelms us. I must say that I miss Sweden, my home, my family, even when my life is as fantastic as it is now.

New York

18 Oct 2013

Finally my website is in English!!!

Since I put the Swedish version online in the end of last year I've been meaning to translate it. But I never managed. It has been a crazy year, geographically it started in India followed by Sweden-Belgium-Finland-Belgium-Chile-Belgium-Northern Ireland-Belgium-Sweden-Holland-Belgium-Spain-France-Belgium-Kenya-Sweden-Belgium-New York… I’ve been creating, playing, teaching and I must say I’ve felt very lucky to do all those beautiful projects.

Here in my blog I’m writing about my life as a circus artist, on stage, back stage and far from stage… Welcome!
